Archibald's BBQ made the list!
Twenty-nine legendary Alabama barbecue joints -- from Big Bob Gibson in Decatur and Dreamland in Tuscaloosa to the Green Top in Dora and Bob Sykes in Bessemer -- will be inducted into the Alabama Tourism Department's newly created Alabama Barbecue Hall of Fame.
The first inductees into the state barbecue hall are to be announced today by Gov. Robert Bentley, recognizing barbecue restaurants that have been open for at least 50 years in Alabama.
"The State of Alabama has become a destination for barbecue lovers across the country," Bentley said in a media release. "The hall of fame provides a way for us to celebrate the iconic restaurants that have made Alabama a tourist attraction.
"Those being recognized are significant members of their communities, and I encourage Alabamians to get out and enjoy the 29 restaurants being honored."
The Alabama Barbecue Hall of Fame restaurants, their locations and the years they began their business (according to the state tourism department) are:
